Ah... finally caught a picture of the big furry cat at Hughes Hall! Mind the scale - each concrete slab is abt 50cm long!
Was at S.T.A.G this morning for service and the speaker spoke of Gen 37 and decisions made. Curiously enough, I happened to read the Vault guide to Schmoozing in the evening and came across a page that wrote on the same character - Joseph! Here's what it wrote:
"Joseph works hard and impresses his master Potiphar. Unfortunately, Potiphar's wife takes an interest in... (Genesis 39:6) Joseph, and pesters him... Joseph attempts diplomacy, modestly saying he wishes not to offend either Potiphar or God. (Joseph makes a good attempt at deflecting Potiphar's wife – he doesn't turn her down directly or insult her.) Ultimately, however, the annoyed spouse frames Joseph for attempted rape, and he is sent to prison.
But it's in prison that Joseph really hones his schmoozing skills. There, he notices that the butler and baker of the king of Egypt... look troubled. Conversationally, he asks, "Why are your faces downcast today?" (Genesis 40:7)When he learns they've had dreams they can't interpret, he offers to give it a try. This is good schmoozing behavior – be sensitive to the moods of others, and offer to assist – but don't be pushy. Joseph predicts that the butler will soon be restored to the Pharaoh's good graces... Two years later, when the Pharaoh has a dream he can't figure out, the butler remembers the young man in prison... Joseph is summoned to court."
How interesting a view - an account of schmoozing from the bible?!
