Yeah!! CFA is finally over!!

Speaking of which.. I finally met someone who "just follow law (rule)" only, and to the letter. It happened.. at my CFA exam. Sunday, June 3.

I forgot to bring my calculator to the exam hall.

Silly right? I was on the verge of giving up. Then... shining under the beam of the hall lights.. I saw 2 tables ahead of me.. a candidate who had 2 calculators!! My saviour!

Raised my hand to a proctor (invigilator) and asked if she can borrow the calculator on my behalf since its 10min before exam. After checking with her lead proctor, she came back to me saying "cannot".

I was stumped. "Cannot? What do you mean cannot? As in.. you cannot borrow on my behalf? If not, can I approach the candidate myself to borrow?" Her reply was.. "Er.. cannot".

Clock ticked. less than 10 min to start of paper.

Am I resigned to try a CFA exam without a calculator? No. I cldn't rest accepting that. I raised my hand to appeal. She came back and before she said anything, I said "I want to see your chief proctor".

They came along.. and short story, they allowd me to borrow from the other candidate myself. Moral of story? Just follow rule + "own initiative" - compassion = "death sentence".

Oh.. did I mention? CFA rules on the paper just prohibited candidates from borrowing calculator during exam. Not prohibition before paper starts!
